Surface Dwellers is a multiplayer mod for Fallout 2 developed by Izual and Amarok, that uses Cvet's FOnline Engine. Its goal is to recreate the ambiance of a survival-horror game, where players will need to help each other to survive inside an hostile world - the surface. The game is currently being developed, and is not playable yet.

Two hundred years have passed since the Great War, a nuclear world-scale disaster that turned the planet into a huge wasteland. The player character was found left for dead in the middle of this desert, and was rescued by the Gravediggers. This organization, which has its headquarters in an underground facility, seeks to rebuild the surface. They have growing manpower and they scavenge enough supplies to do it. However, there is a small problem. Inside the Wasteland roam thousands of green mean cannibals, that we use to call Ghouls - but that they call Zombies, as they saw this name on some pre-war movie poster. Players are sent inside some chosen locations, mostly abandoned towns, to eradicate the zombie threat.

As the background says, you're thrown in an abandoned town to clean it up. Good news: you're not alone to do it, as other players will be here so that you may achieve together your common goal. Actually, you could consider the Gravediggers' underground headquarters as the lobby. From there, players will decide to join the first area, the second area, etc. ; at the beginning though all areas will be using the same town map - Ashtown. If you want to play only with some friends, you can join an empty area and, hell, start the mission! But if you want to join a more populated mission, you could decide to join another area (mission) that started recently and is already filled with players.

Once you're inside an area, you'll have only one goal: preventing the number of zombies in the area to reach a certain number. If there are too many zombies in the area, you automatically lose (die) and get warped back to Gravediggers' HQ. It may sound easy. It's not. As the sun is hidden by some ash clouds, the surface is a dark place, where the only lights are coming from the fires you started up. In addition, new zombies can raise anytime, smashing the floor as they reach the surface world. They can appear anywhere. Near your camp, inside your camp, and, why not, inside the closets while you're suffering from diarrhoea - no, I was just joking, you don't need to use the closets.

Reading the lines above, you certainly realised your task would be thrilling, and not just a linear hunt! It also won't be a mindless slaughter game. Ammunition, weapons and drugs, the three supplies you'll need the most, are scarce. Actually, if you're dropped in the location with a pistol, you can consider yourself lucky. You'll receive daily some stuff depending on your skills, but it won't be enough. Scavenging will be the key. Fortunately, the areas are full of containers that might earn you bullets, guns or healing supplies.

SD & 2238 are not in the same field. Each offer his own game experience.
But we think that SD gameplay will be very attractiv :;):
